Episode 172: Nazi Mummies [Metal Slug 2]

Welcome back to Metal Slug, the game about running and/or gunning.  Now with infinity percent more mummies, you can storm your way through a slightly wider variety of baddies in a way that just feels slightly less satisfying than the first time you did it.  Also, slow-mo turkey.

Those slow down(load)s hurt.

Episode 171: Where's My Trucker Hat? [Fatal Fury]

Back in a blaze of brilliant glory and snark, we're tackling the SNK game we meant to the last time we tried one. Complete with US 1 enthusiasts and Ryu cosplayers, fight with us through all sorts of birds, from ducks to the true migratory bird emperors: geese. Toss in some pre-video-arcade-simulators, and you've got a wild adventure. Or a meander through the streets.

Show Notes

(02:00) Looks like we might get a 3rd Pokémon in a generation.

(05:30) RPG combat mechanics.  Specifically, Boy Band Simulator.

(11:00) If you haven't cleaned up after Doom Guy in space, it's hilarious.

(17:00) Pokémon parties, including everyone's favorite surfer dude!

(24:00) Zach talks about some of the games he played in 2016.  While we're at it, Geremy ended up writing his Year in Review piece he mentioned thinking about.  You should go read it!

(29:00) Mr. McGroove is rather amusing.

(30:30) In defense of Zach and Geremy disliking Rogue One, Tyler was moderately drunk while watching it.  It really does feel like a d20 game.

(38:30) Capcom vs. SNK, and why Terry is the best character in this game.

(41:00) Talking about the mechanics of this game.  Nothing super out of the ordinary for 2D fighters, but there's a foreground/background mechanic, but we could not figure out how to initiate it.  It's pretty decent human on human.

(47:00) Are you OK?!  BUSTER RANKING!

2016 In Review

The idea that 2016 was a rough year which went from consensus to cliche with alarming speed.  It was a rough year for Last Time on Videogames as well.  Zach, Tyler and I produced 40 episodes in 2016, and while I'm rather proud of what we put together, that means we missed 12 weeks.  We've already missed 2 in 2017, but my goal is to have the remaining 50 come out on time for you, and we'll definitely have our first episode of 2017 this Thursday.  In the meantime, I wanted to revisit some of the games we played in 2016 one last time, so hit the jump and lets head down memory lane.

End of Year stuff

We haven't been all that active here on the site for the last couple months and for that we apologize sincerely. Things have just come to a head the last couple of months and conspired against us. We aren't planning on going anywhere for the time being and unless the weather turns on us again and our work lives stabilize a bit thing should go back to normal. Again we do apologize for the missing content over the holidays.  Jump to the post to read my best, most interesting and biggest disappointment of 2016.
