Episode 134: The Great Balloon War [Balloon Fight]

Armed with neither an ostrich nor a lance, you, brave soldier, must fight this war.  We've supplied you only with two helium filled rubber balloons and some military grade overalls.  Good luck, brave warrior.  May you pop all balloons you find.  That aren't yours.  Or your allies', I suppose.  Really, there might be a bit more discretion involved with this operation than I originally implied.  Either way, go fight!

Popping both downloads gets you devoured... by the SOUL FISH!

Show Notes

(02:45) Ball Bullet Gun!  Also, some Pony Island, but we'll save discussion of that for later with comparison of Frog Fractions.

(09:30) Dragon Sphere, while not a discount Dragon Ball, looks potentially horri-great.

(16:00) Because Boba Fett really needed his own pinball table.

(19:30) Phasma's armor gets her own Wookipedia page.  So much potential wasted.

(27:30) The second Balloon War.

(31:30) Interlude!  The sounds in this game are pretty good.

(35:00) 3 balloons indicates a rank of admiral.

Episode 133: A Big 2D Sidescrolling Boss Fighter Guy [Street Fighter 2010]

There comes a time in the life of every brawler/scientist where the science takes a back seat... to JUSTICE! Yes, our most esteemed physicists are often known for equipping themselves with cyborg enhancements and jumping through time/space portals all over the place to combat alien evils. Actually, why don't we currently live in this, the objectively better, of realities? I would love to throw a hadouken with every punch. We can only dream...

Every two downloads enhances your downercut.

Show Notes

(02:45) Turns out, the secret to d'gons is Stillness.  That stupid Transience strat is weak sauce.

(08:00) Everyone died the week we recorded this.

(13:30) Petalburg Gym's differences at a glance: RS vs. E.

(16:00) A bit of backstory.

(19:00) Brazil is weird.

Episode 132: Pokémon WIZARD [Pokémon Pinball RS]

Somehow... it has taken us over 130 episodes to finally play a pinball game.  Perhaps more surprising is that this is only our third Pokémon game.  On a vaguely related note, everyone I know pronounces it "Pókemon", but we were all kids who didn't understand accents at the time.  At any rate, we're going to loop our way through hatching, catching, evolving... Really, everything in this game comes down to shooting 1 of 4 loops.  Also, occasionally annoying a Pelipper enough to cause it to eat you.

2 ramp shots is enough to activate the download, but the 3rd gives you a chance for the stinger.

Show Notes

(02:30) Sunk cost fallacy and the Nigerian prince scam.

(03:30) Stupid Sweeper bonus.

(05:30) Yoshi's Wooly World is really good!  Play it!

(15:30) 7DTD tales.  The other players decided to ignore existing buildings and made a death spire.

(24:00) Getting into the game proper.  There are a lot of problems that mar this otherwise promising game.

(44:00) Pinball, Force style.

Episode 131: Dinosaur Slave Ring [Super Mario World]

Tanooki tails are out this year, and capes are definitely in.  Join us as we try to wind our way through the twists and turns of the crazy geography of this game.  The solution to he Forest of Illusion is to just burn it.  Smoke and mirrors is no match for smoke and cinders.  Also, so many dinosaurs!

Press select to dunka the download.

Show Notes

(03:30) Getting your head out of the Clouds.  Those moves Tyler couldn't remember are Finishing Touch and Climhazzard.

(07:20) All the cool kids have Black Bear Magnums, but Luffy's setting the Grizzly trend.

(08:40) Lots of wood.

(09:30) Zach talks about the new Payday heist for the 2015 holiday season.  It's pretty festive.

(15:00) Zach and Geremy talk about the Pokemon tabletop they're playing right now.  Briefly mentioned: humans are Pokemon.

(19:30) The Psychic type answer to Dark.

(25:00) Super Mario World: The Revenge.

(33:00) This game has a lot of secret routes, which are fun to find.  Star Road, in particular, leads to a bunch of crazy bonus levels after you find all the secret paths there.

(39:30) Clown Cars!

(42:00) "It's like dunka dunka dunka."

(44:30) Pretty high on the list, this game might be.

Episode 130: *garbled noise (Get the Pass)* [Blades of Steel]

Wayne Gretzky would be proud. Or maybe not, but there's a lot of punching and also some hockey. Skate into the new year with us as we tackle another NES sports title that's not ball-themed.

Hat trick!

Show Notes

(06:45) And Larry.

(08:30) Man, Point Break.  That sure was a movie that needed a remake.  Awesome main character name, though.

(14:15) Brief discussion of "good enough" games.
